Rapid PMF

Rapid PMF is a framework I have built over the last 8 years. PMF is required by most investors as a startup’s first success. Finding no published framework to find PMF, I built one. The framework is based on my consumer insights experience with Amex, Steve Blank/Bill Aulet’s market urgency, Geoff Moore’s adoption curve and Model Team Plan by Craig Petersen.

10+ companies have used it successfully. Typical result is PMF in ½ the time at 2x the success rate. Or, the team realizes the deal will just not work and moves on new opportunities.

Rapid PMF has 2 key attributes.

1. The Business Model is considered from month 1. PMF is when the business model, product and market work together successful. The earlier the model is integrated into the thinking, the sooner PMF can be tested/found.
2. Rapid cycle decision making or a fast ‘OODA loop.’ In SaaS for example a team’s combination of model, product, market can be tested and updated every 6-8 weeks. In contrast, most founders update theirs every 6-12 months. After 4-6 versions of this testing, you have a model, problem and solution that is reasonable for PMF.

While neither of these are genius, the framework works better than any I can find publish. If you think you have one that is better or have improvements please let me know.
